Researchers in Northern Ireland sit in a slightly different position from colleagues in the Republic — different medicines regulator, different legal framework — but when it comes to actually receiving an order, the island geography works in their favour. Northern Ireland is part of the United Kingdom, so medicines there are regulated by the MHRA rather than the HPRA, which is the Republic’s authority. That distinction matters mostly for licensed medicines; for research chemicals the practical point is the same on both sides of the border.
